Make sure the parent is part of the plan
Family members overseas may see a need before the person in Jamaica sees it the same way. Unless there is a lawful reason someone else must make decisions, the older adult should understand and agree to the support being arranged.
A respectful introduction matters. Explain who will visit, what they will do and what information may be shared afterward.
Define the task clearly
“Please help Mom” is too broad. “Collect these groceries, deliver them to the house and send the receipt” is clear. So is “accompany Dad to his 10:00 a.m. appointment and return him home afterward.”
Clear scope improves accountability and helps a service provider determine whether the request fits its capabilities and boundaries.
Set authorization and spending limits
If money or purchases are involved, define how much may be spent, what may be purchased and what proof is required. Avoid unrestricted access to bank accounts, cards or financial credentials.
If contractors or third-party providers are involved, clarify who is allowed to approve additional work or costs.
Know the service boundaries
A family concierge can coordinate many practical tasks but should not blur the line into nursing, emergency response, legal representation or other regulated professional work.
Choosing the correct provider for the need is part of responsible support planning.
Decide how you will communicate
Choose the main family contact and preferred communication method. Too many decision-makers can slow a simple task. A single authorized contact makes it easier to obtain approval when something changes.
Where Family Bridge fits
Family Bridge Jamaica provides founder-led, non-medical family concierge, companion support and practical local coordination. We do not provide emergency response, nursing, hands-on personal care, clinical decision-making, legal representation or other regulated professional services. When a request requires another provider, the appropriate professional should be involved.
Frequently asked questions
Questions families often ask
Should my parent approve the arrangement?
In normal circumstances, yes. Family Bridge emphasizes authorization and clear agreement about who is being supported and what the service will include.
Can I give a local helper access to my parent’s finances?
Family Bridge does not accept unrestricted financial access. Purchases should use defined authorization and spending limits.
What if the request turns out to need a nurse, lawyer or other professional?
Family Bridge will keep the service boundary clear and can, where appropriate, help identify or coordinate an independent qualified provider.
